Who We Are

Our website address is https://projects101.org. Projects101 Academy is a free project management learning platform, run by volunteers under the First Web Foundation.

This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

Personal Data We Collect

Depending on how you use the Service, we may collect:

  • Your name and email address, if you sign up for a course, subscribe to our newsletter, or leave a comment.
  • Your message and contact details, if you use our contact form or WhatsApp number.
  • Your course progress, quiz results, and certificates of attendance, if you enrol on a course.
  • Your IP address and browser details, mainly for spam detection and security.

Course Accounts

If you enrol on a course through our learning platform, we store your name, email, and course activity so you can track your progress and results.

You can ask us to see, correct, or delete this information at any time, except your username, which cannot be changed.

Comments

When you leave a comment, we collect the details in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser details, to help detect spam.

We may send a scrambled version of your email address (called a hash) to the Gravatar service, to check if you use it. Gravatar’s privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is shown next to it.

Media

If you upload images to our website, please remove location data (EXIF GPS) beforehand. Visitors can extract location data from images that still include it.

Cookies

We use cookies to run the website and improve your experience. Our cookie consent tool lets you accept, reject, or customise these categories:

  • Necessary cookies, which keep the site secure and remember your cookie choices. These do not store personal data.
  • Functional cookies, which support features like sharing content and collecting feedback.

If you comment on our site, you may opt in to save your name, email, and website in a cookie. This saves you re-entering details next time. It lasts one year.

If you log in to your course account, we set cookies to keep you signed in and remember your display settings. Login cookies last two days, or two weeks if you select “Remember Me”. Screen option cookies last one year. Logging out removes your login cookies.

Embedded Content

Some articles may include embedded content, such as videos from YouTube. Embedded content behaves as if you visited that website directly.

These outside websites may collect data about you, use cookies, add their own tracking, and monitor how you interact with the embedded content, especially if you are logged in to their service.

Who We Share Your Data With

  • If you reset your password, your IP address is included in the reset email.
  • Comments are checked using an automated spam detection service.
  • If you support us or an instructor through Ko-fi, that transaction is handled by Ko-fi, not by us. Please check Ko-fi’s own privacy policy for how they handle your data.
  • Some pages carry affiliate links to outside providers, such as PMI or Axelos. Visiting these links may share data with those providers, under their own privacy policies.

How Long We Retain Your Data

Comments and their details are kept indefinitely, so we can recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically.

If you register for a course or account, we keep your profile information for as long as your account stays active. You, or a site administrator, can view or edit this information at any time.

Your Rights Over Your Data

If you have an account or have left comments on our site, you can:

  • Ask for an exported copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to erase your personal data, except where we must keep it for legal, security, or administrative reasons.

Where Your Data Is Sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service based outside Malawi. We take reasonable steps to keep your data secure wherever it is processed.
